CHINESE KARATE FEDERATION GUIDELINES:
TRADITIONS AND PROTOCOL
The Chinese Karate Federation (CKF) is an organization with the intent to perpetuate Mr. Parker’s art of American Kenpo. While providing its members with a wide range of continuing education, it is also grooming future generations in the martial arts.
MEMBERSHIP
1. Membership is a privilege.
2. School and Student membership is annually (Nov to Nov).
3. All Black Belts (including School/Club Owners) must register annually with the CKF and with the Canadian Representative, Jamie Seabrook. The annual fee is $50 and it is the responsibility of each Black Belt to send the completed form and check or money order to CKF Headquarters.
4. Students’ (White Belts to 1st degree Brown Belt) annual membership fee is $35 (Nov to Nov).
5. Official CKF patches and membership cards can be purchased from CKF Headquarters.
6. The TCB Logo and Crest is a copyrighted logo owned by Sean P. Kelley and made available to CKF members only.
STUDENTS
1. Hygiene – clean uniforms, cut fingernails and cut toenails.
2. Complete uniform - top and bottom, groin cup, belt and/or any other safety equipment.
3. Patches-(1) CKF/TCB crest patch on left front of uniform top; (2) round CKF patch on sleeve of upper left shoulder
4. Standard rules for students - (1) bow in and out of class; (2) address Instructor correctly (Sir, Mr. or Mrs. or Ms.); (3) no running in school; (4) no horse play; (5) no street shoes on floor; (8) respect Seniors.
5. Students are encouraged to attend a CKF event at least once per year.
6. Students are encouraged to take private lessons from their Instructor.
7. Traditionally the turning of the belt knot to the hip was a sign of respect to Instructors (males turned to the left and females turned to the right). Your Instructor will advise you of their preference.
8. A Student is someone who is training, not someone who has trained in the past. All Black Belts are expected to continue his/her personal martial arts training.
BELT TESTING AND PROMOTIONS
1. Belt promotions are important for student’s motivation, pride, and confidence.
2 . Belt test pricing and/or fees are as follows: Advanced White to Advanced Blue: $35; Green to Advanced Green is $50; 3rd Degree Brown to 1st Degree Brown is $75; 1st Degree Black Belt and higher is $200.
3. A CKF Certified Black Belt is a person recognized by the CKF Board of Directors.
4 . A 1st degree Brown Belt can only be promoted to a Black Belt by a 2nd degree or higher CKF Certified Black Belt; a 1st degree Black Belt can only be promoted to a 2nd degree by a 3rd degree CKF Certified Black Belt; a 2nd degree Black Belt can only be promoted to a 3rd degree Black Belt by a 4th degree CKF Certified Black Belt; and a 4th degree and up will be promoted by the CKF Board of Directors.
5. If Black Belts are interested in a CKF belt certificate (in addition to the one you receive under Jamie Seabrook’s Kenpo Karate), the cost of a CKF Black Belt certificate is: 1st and 2nd Black Belts are $150 each; 2nd and 3rd Black Belts are $250 each; and 4th Black Belts and above are $350 each.
6. In order to obtain a Black Belt CKF Certificate, you must have the recognition and approval from CKF Canadian Representative, Jamie Seabrook and The CKF Board of Directors. The certificate will be awarded through the CKF Headquarters. (This fee is in addition to the testing fee of Jamie Seabrook).
